PULP by Jaina Cipriano

Wonderful to be part of this group show by Juniper Rag.

"Let’s reinvent “pop culture”. Our culture in 2024 is evolving exponentially and art-making is moving in new directions, continuing to bridge a gap between contemporary art and the future of art. With this exhibition we continue our contribution to the discourse surrounding art and the future, exploring the intersection of contemporary art practices with modern culture."

New Cover Feature by Jaina Cipriano

”This wonderful cover art is called “In Built Space 1” by Jaina Cipriano. Jaina Cipriano is an experiential designer and filmmaker exploring the emotional toll of religious and romantic entrapment. Her worlds communicate with our neglected inner child and are informed by explosive colors, elements of elevated play and the push/pull of light and dark. Find more of Jaina’s work @jainastudio on Instagram.”

Screenplays! by Jaina Cipriano

Two short screenplays I wrote were accepted to Massachusetts Independent Film Festival - which is exciting because I’ve never submitted my writing anywhere!

Actualization is a short film about healing from narcissistic abuse. I wrote the first draft by hand, in one go, sitting next to the ocean this summer. It’s a strange journey through a memory world where everyone tells the truth. I’m excited about bringing it to the world.

Fell Right Next to the Tree is a 5 page micro short about inherited trauma and my fear of vomiting.

TV Installation by Jaina Cipriano

A new version of You Get to Choose - this portrait, when watched closely, watches you back. An ultra-slowed down self portrait video played on a loop on a purple 2000's TV.

Are we trapped forever in the hearts that beat in our childhood bodies?

On view until April at Laconia Gallery, as part of The Empty Mirror.

Aspect Initiative Feature by Jaina Cipriano

Steven Duede runs a wonderful website featuring New England photographers and I am so honored to be included amongst the immense talent there.

I first became acquainted with Jaina’s works a few years ago and was immediately drawn to the intensely personal nature of much of her works. The dynamic, visually striking, nearly assaultive composition of the works are jarring and thoughtful reflections on isolation, self-awareness and personal triumph. In her self-portraits often, at times with her most expressive face allows us to connect to her situational experiences. Theatrical, cinematic. At times uncomfortable yet humorous. Repulsive yet beautiful, Jaina’s work delivers complex imagery that can serve as a template in personal perception.
